Description of Pepcid

Pepcid belongs to a class of drug known as histamine-2 blockers. The generic name of Pepcid is Famotidine. Your doctor may ask you to buy Pepcid if you are suffering from stomach ulcer. Pepcid is taken orally in the form of suspension or tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Pepcid

Pepcid is used to prevent and treat ulcers in the intestines and stomach. It is also used to cure a disease known as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in which the stomach produces excess acid. Pepcid treats GERD or gastroesophageal reflux and conditions in which the acid recedes into the esophagus and causes heartburn. Pepcid decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach and provides relief from the various symptoms.

The dosage of Pepcid depends on a lot of factors like patients’ age, medical conditions and medications they take. The recommended dosage of Pepcid for treating upper intestine ulcer is 40 mg to be taken as a whole or in two equal doses.

To treat stomach ulcers, Pepcid 40 mg is the recommended dose.

Children between 1 and 16 years of age should take Pepcid 0.5 mg per kg per day.

For adults suffering from GERD, the recommended dosage of Pepcid is 20 mg. For infants and children, the dosage of Pepcid will depend on their weight.

Pepcid tablets must be chewed properly and then swallowed. If you are taking Pepcid suspension, shake the bottle before use.
