Description of Plavix
The main role of the drug Plavix is to prevent the clotting of blood platelets, which may occur due to certain heart and/or blood vessel conditions. The generic name of Plavix is clopidogrel.
Patients and users can buy Plavix in the form of tablets of two different strengths: Plavix 75mg and Plavix 300mg.
Indications & Dosage of Plavix
Plavix is indicated for the prevention of blood clots in patients recovering from any heart or blood vessel disorders or any heart attack or stroke. It may also be used for certain other purposes.
Plavix administration should be strictly according to the doctor’s prescription. Altering the amounts prescribed by the doctor may lead to serious health issues.
The tablet should be swallowed with a glass of water. It should not be crushed or chewed. Plavix can be taken separately or along with food.
Plavix prevents unnecessary blood clots, and therefore, increases the chances of easy bleeding, i.e. bleeding even due to minor injuries. At times, the bleeding does not seem to stop. A doctor should be contacted should such a thing happen.
Blood tests need to be conducted regularly to monitor the effects of the drug on the body. Lastly, the drug must be stored at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
Side effects & Interactions of Plavix
There are several side effects that patients should be aware of before deciding to buy Plavix. Some side effects are minor in nature and do not cause much damage to the body. Some of the minor Plavix side effects are:
- Itching;
- Minor bleeding;
- Relatively easy bruising
There are also certain side effects which may be experienced by users that pose a much greater threat to the body than the aforementioned side effects. These serious side effects often need urgent medical attention to be dealt with. Some of them are as follows:
- Unusual bleeding from various parts of the body;
- Numbness or weakness experienced in a particular side of the body;
- Uncontrollable nose bleeding or bleeding from other areas of the body;
- Coughing up blood;
- Blood in the urine;
- Severe chest pain with the pain often spreading to other areas of the body;
- Severe headaches;
- Confusion and vision problems;
- Speech issues;
- Balance disorders;
- Purple spots under the skin
When certain incompatible substances are taken along with Plavix, drug interactions may occur. Before taking substances like other blood clot preventing medications, modafanil, gemfibrozil, cancer medications, fluoxetine, certain HIV medications, seizure drugs, and stomach acid reducers, a doctor should be consulted. Taking any other substance along with Plavix without the doctor’s advice is not recommended.
Warning & Precautions of Plavix
Patients allergic to the ingredients of Plavix should avoid the drug and look for alternate medications. People with any injury or medical condition experiencing active bleeding should also not take the drug.
Patients with certain medical conditions like kidney problems, any existing stomach ulcer, heart issues or any blood clotting trouble should consult a doctor before taking Plavix.
The drug is not known to harm pregnant or breastfeeding women or their children. Even then, it is recommended that such individuals seek the doctor’s approval before taking Plavix.
