Description of Pristiq

Pristiq is a drug that falls under the category of drugs known as selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors or SNRIs. It is an antidepressant. The main function of Pristiq is to affect certain chemicals present in the brain that may become unstable and lead to several mental problems. The generic name of Pristiq is desvenlafaxine.

Patients can buy Pristiq in the form of tablets in two different strengths: Pristiq 50mg and Pristiq 100mg.

Indications & Dosage of Pristiq

Pristiq is generally indicated for any major depressive disorder which may occur due to the instability of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain. It may also be indicated for other purposes.

Pristiq should be administered based strictly on the doctor’s prescription. Taking higher or lower amounts of the drug than prescribed may lead to several health complications. The drug can be taken separately or with food. It works best if it is taken at approximately the same time each day. The tablets should be swallowed whole. They are not meant to be crushed or chewed. Crushing or chewing Pristiq tablets may release too much of the drug into the system at one time.

Pristiq users must be patient because improvements surface gradually during treatment. The drug must be taken continuously for the whole duration of treatment. Abruptly stopping the dosage may result in several problems for the user. Blood pressure tests need to be conducted regularly while using Pristiq. Lastly, the drug should be stored at room temperature, well away from moisture and heat.
