General Information on Proctofoam HC
Proctofoam HC is indicated for the treatment of rectal inflammation, itching, or irritation. The generic name of this drug is Hydrocortisone and Pramoxine Topical. This drug is available in form of a foam and is meant for anal and perianial (around the anus) administration only.
Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid and inhibits the action of certain naturally-occurring chemicals that causes swelling, redness, and itching. An effective anaesthetic agent, Pramoxine temporarily numbs the affected skin area. This drug is available in strength, Proctofoam HC 1% 1%. In other words, the concentration of both the active ingredients, Hydrocortisone and Pramoxine, is 1%.

Side effects of Proctofoam HC

You may experience one or more of the following side effects during treatment:
- Burning sensation
- Thinning of the skin
- Mild skin burning, redness, dryness, or itching
The aforementioned side effects, in most cases, last for only a short time and are mild in intensity. If these side effects become severe or last for a long time, you should inform your doctor.
In some cases, Proctofoam HC may also cause serious side effects. Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Uneven heartbeats
- Blurred vision
- Rectal bleeding
- Severe burning or pain at and around the treated area

- Increased urination or thirst
- Weight gain
