Description of Protelos

The prescription drug Protelos has strontium ranelate as one of its key ingredients. Strontium ranelate is generally used in drugs intended for bone related problems. The key functions of Protelos in the body are to lower bone breakdown and aid the stimulation of bone rebuilding. This significantly lowers the risks associated with fractures. The generic name of Protelos is strontium ranelate.

Protelos is available as an oral suspension in the form of granules sold in 2g sachets.

Indications & Dosage of Protelos

Protelos is generally indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis which occurs in postmenopausal women. It is non-hormonal in nature. The drug may also be indicated for certain other purposes.

Protelos use should be strictly based on the doctor’s prescription. Dosage amounts should not be altered. The recommended starting dosage is a single 2g sachet per day. It is recommended to have the drug 2 hours after any meal, preferably dinner. The granules should be emptied in an empty glass and mixed with water. The mixture should be stirred until the granules are fully dispersed. It is not advisable to have Protelos with milk as this may cause complications.
