Description of Tarceva

The active ingredient in Tarceva is Erlotinib, and it belongs to the class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. You can buy Tarceva in the form of oral tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Tarceva

Tarceva is an anti-cancer medication used for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). When prescribed along with other medicines, it can also be used for treating pancreatic cancer. Tarceva works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

You can buy Tarceva in 25mg, 100mg and 150mg strengths. For the treatment of NSCLC, you will be recommended to take Tarceva 150mg per day, until unacceptable toxicity or disease progression takes place. For treating pancreatic cancer, your doctor will ask you to take Tarceva 100mg per day.

You will have to take the tablets on an empty stomach at least 2 hours after food or one hour before it.

Side Effects & Interactions of Tarceva

Tiredness, acne, skin dryness, weight loss, diarrhea, nausea and stomach upset may commonly occur in Tarceva patients. However, you should inform your doctor at once if any of these become too bothersome. Also seek medical attention if you develop any serious side effects of the drug. Such side effects include:

• Worsening or new lung problem, symptoms of which include fever with dry cough, chest pain, rapid breathing, wheezing, shortness of breath
• Chest pain spreading to the shoulder or arm, nausea, general ill feeling, sweating
• Sudden weakness or numbness, problems with speech, vision or balance, sudden severe headache
• Eye irritation, redness or pain
• Mood changes, confusion, decreased or stopped urination, increased thirst
• Rapid weight gain, swelling
• Loss of appetite, vomiting, ongoing or severe diarrhea
• Tarry, bloody or black stools
• Cough with blood, dark colored vomit
• Easy bruising, yellowed or pale skin, unusual bleeding from the nose, vagina, mouth or rectum, red or purple pinpoints under the skin
• Sores or white patches on the lips or inside the mouth
• Throat soreness, fever, headache with severe peeling, blistering or red skin rash
• Nausea, itching, upper stomach pain, clay-colored stools, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin

• Medicines for treating narcolepsy (e.g. armodafanil, modafanil)
• NSAIDs (e.g. aspirin, etodolac)
• Anti-seizure drugs (e.g. carbamazepine, primidone)

Warnings & Precautions of Tarceva

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Tarceva if you have an allergy to Erlotinib or to any other active or inactive ingredients in the drug.

Special tests and dosage adjustments will be required if you have liver or kidney disease, breathing or lung problem, dehydration, or if you smoke.

This medicine is not meant to be taken by pregnant women, as it may cause serious harm to the unborn child. Use an effective contraceptive during Tarceva treatment, and also for 2 weeks after the completion of treatment.
