Description of Tekturna

Tekturna has Aliskiren as its main ingredient, and it belongs to the class of anti-hypertensive medicines. The drug is available in the form of oral tablets.

Indications & Dosage of Tekturna

Tekturna is an oral medication used for controlling high blood pressure in hypertensive patients. In order to maximize the benefits of the drug, your doctor may ask you to buy Tekturna along with some diuretics and angiotensin receptor inhibitors. The drug works by decreasing the amount of substances in your body that narrow your blood vessels and raise blood pressure.

The treatment will start with Tekturna 150mg per day, taken as a single dose. After that, the dosage can be increased to Tekturna 300mg per day, taken two times a day as divided doses. The maximum dosage a patient can receive is Tekturna 300mg per day. Effects of the drug are noticed after around 2 weeks of starting the treatment.

Side Effects & Interactions of Tekturna

Common side effects associated with Tekturna include:

• Stomach pain
• Diarrhea
• Skin rash or itching
• Heartburn
• Back pain
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Tiredness
• Swelling of the joints
• Joint pain
• Throat soreness
• Cough
• Stuffy nose

These symptoms are commonly experienced by patients who have recently started taking Tekturna. Most of these are supposed to subside on their own, as the patient’s body adjusts to the drug. However, you must inform your doctor immediately if any of these persist or worsen. Also seek immediate medical attention if you develop any serious side effects of Tekturna. Such side effects include:

• Swelling around the eyes
• Slow heart rate
• Nausea and weak pulse
• Fainting
• Lightheadedness

Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Tekturna if you are already taking antifungal medicines (e.g. fluconazole, ketoconazole or itraconazole), potassium supplements (e.g. K-Dur or Klor-Con), salt substitutes with potassium, and drugs like furosemide, cyclosporine or atorvastatin. In addition to these, inform your doctor about all the drugs you are taking at present, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, herbal preparations and health supplements. Based on this information, your doctor will decide the dosage of Tekturna and the duration of treatment with it.

Warnings & Precautions of Tekturna

You should not use Tekturna if you have a kidney or heart disease or if you are on dialysis. Also inform your doctor beforehand if you have an allergy to ACE inhibitors (e.g. lisinopril, benazepril, ramipril, quinapril or enalapril), or if you are on a low-salt diet.

If your doctor has advised you to take the pill with food, he or she will also advise you to avoid eating high-fat foods. Such foods may make it difficult for your body to absorb Tekturna.

Tekturna can cause fatal harm to the unborn child, especially if taken during the 2nd or 3rd trimesters of a pregnancy. Therefore, do not take this drug unless advised by your doctor. Breastfeeding mothers should also not use Tekturna, as it may pass into breast milk and cause serious harm to the nursing infant.
