Description of Ultravist

Iopromide is the generic name of Ultravist, and it is administered in the form of an intravenous injection. Iopromide is a water soluble, nonionic, x-ray contrast agent that is available in different strengths, which are: Ultravist Injection 150 mgI/mL, 240 mgI/mL, 300 mgI/mL and 370 mgI/mL You can buy Ultravist only if it has been prescribed by your doctor. Each mL of Ultravist contains tromethamine as a buffer and edetate calcium disodium as a stabilizer apart from Iopromide.

Indications & Dosage of Ultravist

Ultravist is administered in patients with Cerebral Arteriography, Peripheral Arteriography, Coronary Arteriography, and Left Ventriculography.

The dosage strength of Ultravist injection varies depending on the patient’s medical condition. The standard dose for patients with Cerebral Arteriography is Ultravist 300 mg I/mL The standard dose for patients with Coronary Arteriography as well as Left Ventriculography is Ultravist 370 mg I/mL The initial dose for patients with Peripheral Arteriography is Ultravist 300 mg I/mL, and the dose for those with Intra-arterial Digital Subtraction Angiography or IA-DSA is Ultravist 150 mg I/mL However, the maximum dose should not exceed Ultravist 250 mL for patients with IA-DSA and Peripheral Arteriography, while the maximum dose for Cerebral Arteriography is Ultravist 150 mL, and that of Coronary Arteriography and Left Ventriculography is Ultravist 225mL.

Side Effects & Interactions of Ultravist

Ultravist can lead to mild or moderate side effects with clearly visible symptoms. Some of the side effects caused by Ultravist include:

  • Abdominal discomfort and pain
  • Pain in upper abdomen
  • Dry mouth or increase in salivation
  • Gastrointestinal disorder and pain
  • Rectal tenesmus

Warnings & Precautions of Ultravist

Iopromide is known to cause harm to the fetus and as such, you should not buy Ultravist without consulting your doctor regarding its use during pregnancy.
