Description of Xopenex

Xopenex is an inhalable medicine with the generic name levalbuterol, which is a bronchodilator. This particular drug relaxes the muscles in your airways, thus improving your breathing. You can buy Xopenex for the treatment of medical conditions that result in obstructed airways. Examples of such medical conditions include bronchitis, emphysema and asthma. Your doctor may prescribe Xopenex for other medical conditions not mentioned above.

Indications & Dosage of Xopenex

Xopenex is available in the form of vials containing the inhalation solution. Each vial has 3ml of the clear and colorless solution in the following strengths- Xopenex 0.3mg, Xopenex 0.63mg and Xopenex 1.25mg. The solution is inhaled by the patient through a nebulizer. Your doctor would determine the strength of Xopenex to be taken and also instruct you on the administration of the drug through a nebulizer. If you have any doubt about the procedure, you can consult your pharmacist or doctor.

A nebulizer is a device that creates a fine, inhalable spray of the drug. In order to use Xopenex solution for nebulization, you need to first open the vial by twisting the top of a single unit dose vial. Once the top is open, you need to squeeze all the contents of the vial into the reservoir of your nebulizer. After this is done, you can attach the reservoir to its face mask or mouthpiece. The nebulizer can be attached to the compressor. When this is done, a fine mist of Xopenex solution would be released. You must breathe deeply, evenly and slowly so that all the contents are inhaled. This would usually take 5-15 minutes, after which no mist would be formed by the nebulizer. If you see that the mist production has stopped, you can assume that the drug has been inhaled fully.

You must clean the nebulizer after using it. You can refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or consult your doctor if you do not know the right procedure. While you are using the nebulizer, you need to sit upright and in a comfortable position. You must place the mouthpiece or face mask correctly so that it covers the mouth and nose and the drug is fully inhaled.
