Description of Zyflo CR
The prescription drug Zyflo CR is categorized under the class of drugs called leukotriene synthesis inhibitors. Leukotrienes are naturally occurring chemicals in the body that play a key role in cases of swelling and inflammation that might occur in the lung airways. Leukotriene production also leads to constriction of muscles in the airways. The key function of the drug Zyflo CR is the prevention of leukotriene production. The generic name of the drug is zileuton.

Indications & Dosage of Zyflo CR
Zyflo CR is indicated for the treatment of asthma, which may be caused due to the increased production of leukotrienes. Patients must be aged at least 12 years of age in order to use the drug.
Zyflo CR dosage should be based on the doctor’s prescription. Altering dosage amounts is not recommended as it may lead to several health hazards. The general recommended dosage of Zyflo CR for both children and adults is two 600mg tablets a day. The tablets should be preferably taken after the morning and evening meals, with a minimum time gap of 1 hour between the meal and dosage. Zyflo CR tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. They should not be crushed or chewed.
