Description of Requip XL

The generic name of Requip XL is Ropinirole. It belongs to a family of drugs known as dopamine agonists. Requip XL is available in the form of an extended release tablet formulation for oral use. It is supplied in different strengths such as Requip XL 2 mg, 4 mg, 6 mg, 8 mg, and 12 mg. The drug is a prescription medication, which means you need to consult your doctor before you buy Requip XL online.

Indications & Dosage of Requip XL

Requip XL is indicated in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is not intended to cure the disease, but only treats the symptoms.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder caused by loss of neurons in part of the brain that controls movement. It gradually increases, causing increased loss of control over body movements. Dopamine, a chemical in the brain, functions as a neurotransmitter and plays an important role in controlling movements of the body. The starting recommended dose of Requip XL is 2mg, one time daily. Your doctor may increase the dosage after 1-2 weeks. The dosage is generally increased by 2 mg each week. The maximum recommended dose is 24mg, once daily.

Side Effects & Interactions of Requip XL

Like all other drugs, Requip XL may also cause mild to severe side effects in some patients. However, not all people who use this medication experience side effects. As a matter of fact, many people who use Requip XL do not complain about any side effects.

Less severe side effects associated with Requip XL are: headache, constipation, stomach upset or pain; weakness, dizziness, increased sweating, loss of appetite, drowsiness, flu-like symptoms, tiredness, sore throat, vomiting, light headedness, or nausea. It may interact with drugs such as anticoagulants, Estrogen, Levodopa, Phenothiazines, Entacapone, Benzodiazepines, Quinolones, Fluvoxamine, Omeprazole,a, antidepressants or antipsychotic medications; Metoclopramide, or Thioxanthenes.
