General Information on Triphasil

Triphasil is a hormonal birth control pill and combination drug which consists of levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. These two drugs are synthetic forms of female hormones and are used to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

Triphasil prevents pregnancy in three ways. It first prevents the process of ovulation, wherein an egg is released from the ovaries. Secondly, it changes the cervical mucus in such a way that the sperm cannot get into the uterus and fertilize the egg. As a last resort, Triphasil changes the uterine lining in such a way that a fertilized egg cannot attach itself to it.

Side effects of Triphasil

You must not buy Triphasil online or from a drugstore if you are suffering from hormone related cancer like uterine or breast cancer, blood circulation problems, liver cancer or liver disease, extreme hypertension, heart valve disorder, migraine headaches, and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Triphasil is indicated only as a preventive measure against pregnancies. It can cause birth defects in the child if it is taken when you are already pregnant. You must inform your doctor at once if you miss two consecutive periods or if you get pregnant while on Triphasil. If you recently underwent a successful delivery, you must wait for at least a month before you buy Triphasil and use it. If you are breastfeeding, this time period would extend to 6 weeks.

Serious side effects may occur on taking Triphasil. These side effects include the following, and you would need to alert your doctor immediately if you experience any of them:

• Sudden weakness or numbness, especially when it is restricted to just one side
• A change in the intensity and frequency of migraine headaches

• Swelling in the feet, ankles and hands
• Heaviness or pain in the chest which spreads to the shoulder and arms
• Dark urine, jaundice, loss of appetite, stomach ache, nausea

Other mild side effects that may occur on taking Triphasil include the following:

• Mild stomach cramps, bloating, vomiting or nausea
• Swelling, tenderness or pain in the breast
• Darkening of, or the appearance of freckles on the face
• Reduced scalp hair and increased hair growth
• Problems while wearing contact lenses
• Change in appetite or weight
• Vaginal discharge or itching
• Nervousness, dizziness, headache, tiredness
• Changes in menstrual cycle
• Reduced sex drive

Dosage of Triphasil

The dosage and exact mode of treatment with Triphasil will be determined by your doctor. Triphasil is available in a blister pack containing different types of active and inactive pills. The pills to be taken each day will be explained to you by your doctor.
