Dosage of Riomet

Riomet is to be taken only as prescribed by a doctor. It should not be taken in a larger or smaller amount than recommended. It is best to follow the directions on the prescription label. The doctor may alter your dose in order to help you achieve the best results.

Riomet is to be taken with a meal unless advised by your doctor. Some take it only once daily with their evening meal. For best results, a patient has to supplement Riomet with a balanced diet, exercise, and weight control measures.

A patient also has to regularly check his or her blood sugar while on Riomet.

Travelling, exercising more than usual, skipping meals, and drinking alcohol affect glucose levels, and as such, the dose of Riomet may be altered in these cases.

Riomet should be stopped for a short time if a patient has a fever or infection or if he or she has a surgery or a medical emergency.

A doctor may sometimes ask a patient to take vitamin B12 along with Riomet.

If a patient misses a dose of Riomet, he or she has to take it as soon as possible. If it is time for the next regular dose, the missed doses should be skipped. A patient should avoid taking two doses at the same time.

Avoid drinking alcohol with Riomet since it lowers blood sugar and increases the risk of lactic acidosis.

Interactions

Riomet has been reported to have interactions with a total of 628 drugs. Among these 14 are major, 559 moderate, and 55 are minor drug interactions. Tell your doctor if you use furosemide, nifedipine, cimetidine, digoxin, etc. since they may adversely react with Riomet. There are four disease interactions with Riomet which includes: lactic acidosis, hypoglycemia, B12 deficiency, and cardiovascular risk.
