Description of Twynsta

Twynsta is a combination medication for the treatment of high blood pressure. The two drugs that make up this drug have the generic names telmisartan and amlodipine. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, while amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. The former stops the blood vessels from narrowing down, while the latter relaxes the blood vessels and the heart itself. In most cases, you would have to buy Twynsta along with other blood pressure medications.

Indications & Dosage of Twynsta

Twynsta is available as a tablet in the following strengths- Twynsta 40/5mg, Twynsta 40/10mg, Twynsta 80/5mg and Twynsta 80/10mg. The first strength represents that of telmisartan, while the second one represents the strength of amlodipine. The dosage to be followed would be determined on a patient to patient basis by the doctor.

You must follow the dosage of Twynsta prescribed to you. Your doctor may increase your dosage after 2 weeks, with the appropriate dosage achieved in a span of 4 weeks. The maximum dosage recommended is one Twynsta 80/10mg tablet per day.

Twynsta may cause hypotension if you also suffer from any of the following- diarrhea, heavy sweating, heart disease, or if you are on dialysis. You must inform your doctor if you suffer from any of them beforehand.

While you are on Twynsta, you may need to have your blood pressure checked frequently, apart from undergoing other medical tests. Therefore, it is best if you do not miss any scheduled appointments with your doctor.

Hypertension is a chronic condition that lasts for life, and you may be given Twynsta for a long duration. You must continue taking the drug as prescribed, even if you feel alright. This is because high blood pressure often shows no symptoms.
