Description of Micardis HCT

Micardis HCT is a combination medicine containing two active ingredients: Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. It falls under the category of cardiovascular agents, and the patient receives it in the form of oral tablets. You can buy Micardis HCT tablets in 40/12.5mg, 80/12.5mg and 80/25mg strengths. In addition to the active ingredients, the tablets also contain sodium starch glycolate, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, sorbitol, povidone, meglumine and sodium hydroxide.

Indications & Dosage of Micardis HCT

Micardis HCT is used for the treatment of hypertension. Keeping blood pressure under control helps in decreasing risks of having certain medical conditions, including kidney or liver damage, heart attack, heart disease or stroke. Telmisartan relaxes your blood vessels so that blood flows through them more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide increases the amount of urine you pass, so that your body gets rid of extra water and salt. In some cases, this drug can also be used or protecting kidneys from diabetes or for the treatment of congestive heart failure.

The treatment usually starts with one Micardis HCT 80/12.5mg once a day. After that, it can be increased to Micardis HCT 160/25mg per day, depending on how your body responds to the treatment. You can take Micardis HCT tablets with or without meals.

Side Effects & Interactions of Micardis HCT

Blurred vision, dizziness or lightheadedness is commonly associated with Micardis HCT tablets. These are short-lived side effects of the drug and should subside on their own within a few days of starting the treatment. However, inform your doctor at once if any of these become intolerable. • Decreased or increased urination
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Stomach or abdominal pain
