Description of Lotensin HCT

Lotensin HCT is used to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. It is the combination of two drugs - benazepril (ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic). The generic name of the drug is Benazepril/Hydrochlorothiazide.

You can only buy Lotensin HCT as per the prescription of your doctor. Take the tablet orally with a full glass of water. Don’t crush, chew or break the tablet as it may result in excess discharge of the drug. You may take it with or without food. You must drink lots of fluids while taking Lotensin HCT to avoid dehydration. Don’t take the tablet in excess or for a longer time than prescribed by the doctor.

Indications & Dosage of Lotensin HCT

Lotensin HCT relaxes the blood vessels and widens them to allow for better blood circulation. Lotensin HCT is supplied in 5mg/6.25mg, 10mg/12.5mg, 20mg/12.5mg and 20mg/25mg strength tablets.

The recommended dosage of Lotensin HCT is 10mg to 80mg of Lotensin a day for adults. The doctor will decide the dosage depending on the weight of the patient, medical condition, and the response to treatment. The dosage in children below the age of 12 years must be decided by the doctor. You must take the drug at the same time every day to get the best results. Don’t share Lotensin HCT with others. Don’t skip any dose. If you miss a dose of Lotensin HCT, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, avoid the missed dose. Don’t take an overdose of the drug. The symptoms of an overdose are fainting, lightheadedness, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, mood changes, seizures, symptoms of dehydration, muscle pain, dry mouth and eyes, sluggishness and unusual thirst. You must store Lotensin HCT at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep it away from direct light, moisture and heat. Don’t keep the tablets in the bathroom or kitchen. Make sure that it is kept away from the reach of children.
