Description of Maxzide
Maxzide is a combination drug made up of two drugs with the names hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene. Hydrochorothizide belongs to the drug class of thiazide diuretics, and triamterene is a part of potassium-sparing diuretics. Maxzide prevents the salt absorption process of the body, which may lead to fluid retention. You can buy Maxzide in the form of oral tablets with the following dosage strengths- Maxzide 75mg/50mg and Maxzide 37.5mg/25mg, representing triamterene/hydrochlorothiazide, respectively.
Indications & Dosage of Maxzide
Maxzide is specifically indicated for the treatment of hypertension and edema, commonly known as fluid retention. Your doctor may prescribe Maxzide as a lone medication, or along with other hypertension treatment medications like Beta blockers.
The dosage and duration of treatment with Maxzide would be determined by your doctor. You must never take a dosage of Maxzide that is larger than what was prescribed to you, as this may lead to an overdose. Your doctor may change your dose of Maxzide from time to time to attain the best efficacy from the drug.
Patients who are on Maxzide would need to undergo certain medical tests from time to time to check for any adverse effects. If your doctor has scheduled a visit with you or instructed you to go through some medical tests, do not miss out on them.
You must tell the doctor about your Maxzide treatment if you are planning to undergo a surgery or blood transfusion. If Maxzide was prescribed for treating hypertension, then you may need to take it for the rest of your lifetime. This is because hypertension is a lifetime condition and often shows no symptoms.
